4. John Prine - The
Tree of Forgiveness
The older I get, the nicer it feels to have the perspective
of an older artist. His comeback from cancer gives Prine a perspective that I
need. He just does not have fear in his songs. Sadness, yes.. but, no fear in
looking into the void. As for Prine, the raw simplicity of his voice adds a feeling
that wasnt there in the past.
5. Saba - Care for Me
From the start of 2018. Saba searches through relationships
on every track. LOGOUT ft: Chance.

The Jon Hopkins and Low albums JUST missed making my list this year. Glad to hear someone else was spacing out to those 2 phenomenal albums.
Just became aware of Young Fathers this year due to their tour with Algiers, which I sadly missed because I was out of town. I liked Cocoa Sugar, but I loved White Men Are Black Men Too. Discovering them at the same time likely impacted how I ranked Cocoa Sugar. Going to go back and give it another spin now.
Also, I love the "Goes Well With" comments.
Young Fathers.. it took me awhile. And Im still not sure about its ranking on my list. But, when I was asking myself what album I most wanted to listen to everyday. I kept coming back to that one.
Hopkins and Low were great for getting into work.. watching the sun come up.
Yeah, Young Fathers got their own spin on TV on the Radio. There probably are some other touchstones, but that is the one that resonates with me. Been a while since I listened to TV on the Radio. Guess it is time to revisit Dear Science and maybe Return to Cookie Mountain.
Could add Jeff tweedy to the bottom of this list. He came in a little late, but it's a quality album.
And, I'm not sure how to think about groups from the past. How do you judge spiritualized and tweedy? Each album, righty, has the same sound that they had years ago.
Yeah, how I feel about a band revisiting their classic sound varies quite a bit. Having just revisited my top 10 lists for the last 10 years, there are clearly some bands that keep showing up: Portugal. The Man, Crocodiles, Frightened Rabbit, Lucero, Japandroids, Radiation City, Battleme. But for the most part, those bands are only a couple albums deep and don't go back to the 90's like Spiritualized and Wilco/Jeff Tweedy. There are very few bands I am still passionate about their new material when they've been around that long. Doesn't mean I don't enjoy those albums. I still need to hear each new Spiritualized.
