Two Door Cinema Club - Tourist History (2010)

I have been seriously uninspired by most new music lately. I feel like the first half of the year was on fire with new content, and this second half has been the doldrums. Maybe I'm just not trying hard enough.

One newish group I've been playing periodically and enjoying is Two Door Cinema Club. This three piece out of Northern Ireland is straight dance pop, nicely packaged in three minute jolts. Much like Bloc Party, the bulk of the dance drive comes from speedy drums and piercing guitar riffs. There is a potential workout in every song.

Strangely enough, I think their best song, "Something Good Can Work," is the one that breaks from the uniformly applied, spastic dance beat, and slows the pace for a repetitive, but catchy chorus. It is your typical perfectly simplistic, feel good jammy jam. The rest of the tracks hold their own as up-beat pop, and are certainly worth a listen in this seemly slow period before we move toward the holiday rush. TDCC is currently on tour in the good ol' U.S. of A.

Along with "Something Good Can Work" I really like "Undercover Martyn" and "You're Not Stubborn".
