Friday night has by far my toughest decisions and is my most ambitious night. A close friend wants to go check out some beautiful acoustic folk, but ultimately I think I will follow my sloppy rock n' roll loving heart. The Gories are playing! How could I miss that? And if I start the night a little early I can catch two of my favorite local bands.
Friday, September 10th
Surfer Blood @ Wonder Ballroom (5:30) FREE
It's early, it's free, and Astro Coast was the first album I loved this year. I can't miss it.
Pure Country Gold @ Dantes (9:30)
I love these local garage blues thrashers. I've already seen them a bunch this year, but I'll only miss their set if I am still power napping in preparation for the Gories' late set.
Jared Mees & The Grown Children @ Someday Lounge (10:30)
It'll be worth skipping out to the Someday Lounge, to check out the indie rock party that Mees puts on. Seems like he's about due for another album, maybe he'll try out a couple new songs.
Thee Oh Sees @ Dantes (11:30)
These hyper-prolific garage rockers consistently put out some of the best garage pop in bustling Bay Area scene.
The Gories @ Dantes (12:30 AM)
Mick Collins is a bad ass. I loved seeing the Dirtbombs the last time they came through town, but I've never had a chance to see the Gories. Now I do. Enough said.

There's a nice piece on Pure Country Gold on the Local Cut blog.
