Flight Of The Conchords @ Santa Barbara County Bowl
Better late than never, right? For starters, I had to bike my ass off to make it to this concert, so by the time I got there I was sweaty, winded and it was well past beer thirty. I could hear Arj Barker doing his stand up routine as I waited in line for beer, along with laughter from the crowd. I made it to my seat for the last 15 minutes or so of his set, and I was not disappointed. A funny guy, however none of his jokes are coming back to me a week later...I'm pretty sure there were some drug/pop culture/music references, and I chuckled heartily more than once. Barker segued nicely into the main event, FOTC. They arrived on stage sporting homemade (cardboard, silver tape, spray painted) robot costumes and kicked off their set with "Too Many Dicks (On the Dance Floor)", with Bret on guitar and Jemaine rocking an old school synthesizer/drum machine. They played every song I wanted to hear (The Most Beautiful Girl in the Room, Business Time, Hurt Feelings), and some other AWESOME songs (Ballad of Stana, Jenny, Same Girl, I Told You I was Freekie) that I'd never heard. I didn't stay for the encore, but I could hear Bowie's In Space blasting out as I waited near the exit, because The Bowl is a pain in the ass to leave if you wait 'til the end. All in all a great show. Should you listen to/watch Flight of the Conchords? Fuck and yes.
